Dennis Llewellyn Day first recorded Sunday Morning Sunshine, his original composition, back in 1989 in Chicago with all great Chicago-based musicians; the late great sax sensation Art Porter Jr., guitarist Nick Colionne, Lawrence Hanks on keys, and drummer Terry Morrissette. This was during the Hip Hop explosion of hard core misogynistic Gangsta Rap. Dennis says, “Inspired by the activism of Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts III, I wanted to write something old fashioned, traditional, even a bit corny but very romantic in contrast to what filled the air waves on urban radio in that era.”
